After Rippling blew millions on AI in months, it built an employee ROI tool
Rippling says its AI bill was on pace to equal 40% of R&D payroll before it built controls to tie token spend to employee output.
The company’s new AI Spend Console tracks AI usage by employee, team, and role, and tries to show whether that spend is producing useful work or rework. Rippling says 10–15% of employees drove about 60% of AI spend, with one engineer spending $50,000 a month. After adding caps, model routing, and dashboards, Rippling says token spend fell from 40% of R&D headcount budget to about 15% while usage stayed high.
