Nvidia’s $3.5B MediaTek bet reveals its plan for tackling Big Tech’s AI chip buildout
Nvidia is paying to make custom AI chips work inside Nvidia’s own data-center architecture.
The $3.5 billion MediaTek investment gives the chipmaker access to Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion ecosystem for custom silicon aimed at AI companies and hyperscalers. The piece frames the move as Nvidia accepting some customer demand for non-GPU chips while keeping those chips tied to its racks, interconnects, and broader infrastructure stack. MediaTek is already building a custom data-center ASIC business and expects $2 billion in 2026 revenue from it. The companies are also extending work on DGX Spark, RTX Spark, and AI vehicle platforms. TechCrunch AI's note
