Why Sandbar thinks it’s voice-enabled ring can avoid the AI hardware graveyard
Sandbar is betting Stream can work where other AI wearables have not because it is push-to-talk, not always listening.
The company’s private voice ring is aimed at capturing stray thoughts and ideas, a use case adjacent to AI notetaking devices. Sandbar has raised $36 million, including a $23 million Series A led by Adjacent and Kindred Ventures. CEO Mina Fahmi told TechCrunch’s Equity podcast that keeping the human in control is central to making wearable AI socially acceptable. He also said Sandbar chose to build custom hardware instead of reskinning an existing device.
