HyperDrone: Simulation-to-Reality Transfer at Millions of Frames per Second
A vision-based yaw controller trained entirely in simulation transferred to a camera-equipped Crazyflie and ran fully onboard.
The authors report that HyperDrone runs more than 20 times faster than existing state-of-the-art batch quadrotor simulators. It combines optimized flight dynamics with HyperLux, a ray-tracing engine; both can run entirely on the GPU. HyperLux produces RGB, depth, segmentation and motion observations, with configurable effects including realistic lighting and motion blur. The authors report millions of rendered frames per second on consumer-grade GPUs even at the highest fidelity settings.
