Google’s new SynthID website can identify AI-generated media
Google has opened SynthID verification to anyone, after limiting the tool to selected testers.
The new site checks images, videos, and audio files for SynthID watermarks from Google’s AI models and tools. Google says SynthID is also supported by OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao, with Apple expected to add support. SynthID checks are already built into Gemini and Chrome, and Google says people make 1 million verification requests a day. TechCrunch notes these systems are not foolproof and can miss content made by their own companies’ models. TechCrunch AI's note
