Spotify expands AI remix and covers project with Merlin partnership
Merlin’s catalog brings more than 30,000 independent labels into Spotify’s consent-based AI remix project.
Spotify told investors the coming tool will let fans make AI covers and remixes only from artists who opt in. Merlin joins Universal Music Group as a licensing partner, widening the pool of eligible music before launch. Executives framed the product as built around artist consent, credit, and compensation, in contrast with fully synthetic AI tracks. A research preview will go to a subset of users, but Spotify did not give a launch date. TechCrunch AI's note
