Can Agents Design Libraries for Agents?
The paper tests whether agent-built libraries actually help later agents reuse code instead of rebuilding it.
LibraryDesignBench has one agent design a full library from a spec, then measures how three other agents use it across 242 programming problems and 15 tasks. On 11 tasks, agent designers arrived at abstractions similar to the human production libraries. The downstream agents used both human- and agent-written libraries, but still often reimplemented functions the libraries already had.
