OpenAI launches Astra, its powerful (and controversial) new model
Astra is being rolled out with cyber powers OpenAI says can find zero-days, alongside safeguards it says make the model more aligned.
The model is available first to Daybreak cybersecurity customers, with paid plans and API access following over the next week. OpenAI says Astra is its strongest software engineering model, citing benchmarks for bug finding, terminal tasks, and codebase questions. The controversy is its use of opaque recurrence, which can make model reasoning harder to monitor.
