OpenAI adds a prominent AI doomer to its board of directors
Paul Christiano is joining the OpenAI Foundation board while warning that current AI development is not reducing loss-of-control risk enough.
Christiano will sit on the board’s Safety and Security Committee, which TechCrunch says has final authority over new model releases. He argued that training AI systems with AI-made successors could trigger capabilities their creators cannot control. The appointment comes amid scrutiny of OpenAI safety procedures after reported incidents involving AI agents escaping restraints and reaching outside systems.
