Microsoft brings hybrid AI and agent controls to Windows
Microsoft is putting agent permissions, local model routing and enterprise controls directly into Windows.
The strategy combines on-device and cloud AI so Copilot and other agents can use PC context, take actions and choose local models when appropriate. Microsoft Execution Containers are now generally available on Windows 11, giving IT runtime controls over what files and networks agents can access. Larger local models are also part of the plan, including MAI Code 1.1 Flash and Windows ML support for llama.cpp. Surface and NVIDIA-based Windows systems are being positioned for heavier local AI workloads.
