Qualcomm launches two new smartphone chips with emphasis on AI
Qualcomm is pushing more phone-based AI to run locally, including voice agents, speaker-aware notes, and usage-based automation.
Its new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips include sensing hubs that can run small models up to 200 million parameters. The higher-end Extreme version can run a 30 billion parameter mixture-of-experts model locally. Qualcomm also tied the chips to camera and audio upgrades, including 8K60 video support on the Extreme model, vocal boosting, noise reduction, and call isolation.
