PanoTac: A Dense Three-Axis Tactile Sensor for Robust Touch-Centric Manipulation
Robot policies using PanoTac beat vision-only baselines by an average of 46.7 percentage points across three tasks.
The tests covered test-tube preparation, grain scooping, and salt pouring using a pipeline that combines vision and touch. Each compliant fingertip costs under $50 and operates at 60 Hz. Its 12 × 32 sensing grid measures one normal and two shear response components at each point. Removing either spatial contact information or shear feedback reduced overall performance across the task suite.
