Travis Kalanick’s robotics company raises $1.7B, led by a16z

· TechCrunch AI ·
Uber is back on Kalanick’s cap table as Atoms raises a16z-led money for an undefined robotics push.

Atoms raised $1.7 billion, with Andreessen Horowitz leading and Ben Horowitz joining the board. Bain Capital, Fifth Wall, Uber, and others also participated. The company is built on Kalanick’s post-Uber CloudKitchens work and now includes Pronto, the heavy-industry automation company run by Anthony Levandowski. Kalanick framed the round as “unfinished business,” but did not give specifics on what Atoms will build beyond earlier talk of a “wheelbase for robots” and possible mining work. TechCrunch AI's note
