Moonshot released Kimi K3’s 2.8T-parameter weights, but its license now adds a separate deal requirement for large MaaS businesses.
The weights are on Hugging Face and total 1.56TB. Simon Willison notes that K3 drops the old “modified MIT” framing and instead requires a separate agreement with Moonshot AI once Model as a Service revenue crosses $20 million over 12 months. He also credits Kimi for calling the release “open weight,” not “open source.” OpenRouter already lists K3 from seven providers, mostly at Moonshot’s $3/million input and $15/million output pricing.
