AIM: Agentic Idea Management for Automated Research

· HF Daily Papers ·
AIM treats research automation as a problem of managing ideas, not just testing solutions.

The paper introduces an autonomous framework that organizes evolving research directions, chooses which ones to pursue, and checks that implementations still match the ideas behind them. Its components include an Agentic Surrogate, an Agentic Acquisition mechanism, a Solution Auditor, and a Resource Planner for allocating experiment budget across branches. On 10 AutoLab benchmark tasks, AIM beats the strongest baseline by 1.6 points on System Optimization and 4.9 points on long-horizon Model Development and CUDA tasks. It also reaches the best baseline performance up to 3.1x faster in wall-clock time. HF Daily Papers' note
