Port of the TypeScript compiler, checker and lsp to Rust, by LLM
An LLM-built Rust port of TypeScript’s compiler stack is out as an early release, with the author saying it reached broad compatibility after about $24,000 in Claude spend.
The project, `tsc-rs`, ports Microsoft’s Go-based TypeScript compiler, checker, language server and API to Rust. The author says an earlier multi-month OpenAI run cost more than $400,000 and stalled around 84% compatibility, while Opus 5.5 produced a working version from scratch in 10 hours. The release claims all 181,711 ported Go tests pass, with real-world benchmark runs showing `tsc-rs` faster than TypeScript’s Go compiler but generally slower than `bun check`. It is still marked early, with known monorepo, build-mode and editor-memory issues. Source: HN · LLMs' note
