Apple is creating a signed “digital negative” for iPhone 18 Pro photos.
Apple Reference Image captures signed sensor data alongside a photo, then uses Private Cloud Compute to create an unalterable reference viewable in Photos. That reference can be compared with edited versions to show whether changes were made. Apple says the feature is aimed at photojournalists and photographers, and it plans APIs for developers.
