Amex introduces a framework to prevent AI agents from making unauthorized purchases

· TechCrunch AI ·
Amex wants AI purchases checked against a signed record of what the customer actually authorized.

Its new Intent Intelligence Framework captures purchase instructions and constraints before an agent checks out. The customer authenticates and approves that intent, producing an Intent ID and token used to get a secure payment credential instead of exposing the card number. Amex says the same record could help with fraud prevention, disputes, and blocking purchases that drift from the request, such as the wrong merchant or product. The framework is part of Amex’s ACE Developer Toolkit, and the company says it is talking with payments partners about implementation. TechCrunch AI's note
