Initialization Improves LLM-Driven Discovery
Early parallel exploration made later LLM discovery runs more reliable.
The paper tests 12 modular harnesses across five discovery tasks and finds success is brittle under different harness designs. A common failure is mode collapse, where the diversity of generated iterates drops sharply. Existing diversity-focused fixes produced inconsistent gains. The authors report that strong early discoveries predict eventual success, so they add an initialization stage before iterative optimization. HF Daily Papers' note
