DARPA, U.S. Air Force fly AI-controlled F-16

· HN · Frontpage AI ·
A modified F-16 is now flying with an AI agent in control while a human pilot remains in the cockpit to monitor and intervene.

DARPA says the VENOM Autonomy Kit lets the pilot switch between human and AI control without changing the jet’s core software. The flights build on earlier ACE work with the X-62A VISTA and move the testing onto converted operational F-16s. The VENOM fleet will be used under DARPA’s AIR program to test multiple AI agents in live-flight scenarios, with an eye toward pilots commanding teams of autonomous uncrewed aircraft.
