Figures as Programs: Recursive Generation of Editable Scientific Figures
FigTree turns a paper into an editable scientific figure by generating it as layered SVG code.
The system grounds the figure in the source paper, breaks it into local regions, writes each region as a short SVG program, then assembles the pieces. A render-critic loop checks both the rendered image and the program so defects can be traced back to specific statements and repaired. The authors report evaluations showing higher figure quality and more effective editing than raster-based methods. ArXiv · AI/CL/LG's note
